Security
How we work to protect you
We use a wide variety of security protection and monitoring methods to safeguard your information including firewalls, anti-virus software, application security, anti-phishing efforts, and monitoring for intrusions and other fraudulent activity.
When you access your accounts and perform online transactions, we use 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. All sensitive information traveling across the Internet is encrypted with a special key created by our computer network and your browser. You know SSL encryption is at work by the presence of the lock or key symbol in your browser’s status bar or https: in the URL.
Business Internet banking customers perform higher risk activities online, such as ACH and wire transfers. Security tokens and personal verification questions are just some of the additional security measures we put in place to protect your account(s).
How You Can Reduce the Risk of Online Transactions
A multi-layered approach must be applied to your company’s defenses against fraud. You must deploy a variety of safeguards. The top five steps you should take include:
- Performing daily reconciliation of all banking transactions.
- Using up dual-approval for ACH and wire transfers. Business Internet Banking requires these transactions to have the approval of two individuals — an originator and an authorizer. In addition, reduce daily limits for ACH and wire transactions if they are not being used. We also analyze ACH and wire limits and reduce them as necessary.
- Train all employees who perform online banking transactions on basic Internet security. Training should include how to create a strong password, avoid phishing attempts and recognize if they are in a secure session.
- Install firewalls and update anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware programs regularly. Also be sure to update other software regularly as software companies often release new security patches.
- Dedicate a computer to performing online transactions. This computer should stand alone without e-mail abilities and be used only for banking web sites. This is ideal for performing high value or large numbers of banking transactions.
